Dental hygiene is a core aspect of our dental care provision at The Ivory Clinic and helps form the basis of our preventive care.
At-home care
At The Ivory Clinic, we know that good dental hygiene starts at home. We recommend twice daily brushing with a fluoride toothpaste for two minutes, along with regular flossing or the use of an interdental brush for all our patients.
With regular visits to our dental hygienists, we can also help build a more bespoke at-home care routine that’s tailored to your needs and health history.
This might include specific care advice targeting any orthodontic or restoration treatments you’ve received, for example. Or it could be tailored to a particular aim or smile ambition you have, such as whiter teeth.
We might also offer lifestyle advice that can help target any specific issues which might be adversely affecting your overall oral health. This could include cutting out or down on certain foods, beverages, and smoking.
In-practice treatment
Frequent visits to both the dentist and a dental hygienist are just as important as your at-home care when it comes to maintaining and promoting your dental hygiene.
Regular dental exams help us assess and address any current issues, and can also prevent them from arising. We recommend dental examinations every 6-12 months, alongside dental hygiene appointments every 6-12 months.
At your dental hygiene appointments, our highly trained and talented hygienists will be able to conduct a full review of your oral health, including a gum tissue check. They are on the frontlines when it comes to combating gum disease, and will be able to diagnose, prevent, and in some cases treat it.
They can also perform a professional cleaning, such as our Airflow® Tooth Polishing treatment. This will not only leave the mouth clean and bright but also remove the build-up of tartar and plaque that can cause tooth decay.
